Cetacean Rehabilitation

The Marine Mammal Physiology Project, in conjunction with The Marine Mammal Center, is responsible for all live cetacean strandings on California’s central coast.  The staff of the Marine Mammal Physiology Project, along with many other volunteers, are responsible for providing the best possible care for these stranded animals with the ultimate goal of releasing them back into the ocean.

Construction of our brand new stranding facility has been completed and has already been put to use .  The facility is equipped with a large pool, dry deck space, as well as a dwelling for the caregivers.  During these stranding events, the staff attempts to learn as much as possible from these animals during their recovery.
